There are several different species of flying gurnard. This one had a characteristic red face. Their name comes from their behavior - if stressed they take off in the water and "fly" away. Otherwise they move at a more sedate pace and very close to the sandy bottom. Interesting is also the noise they can make

Es gibt mehrere Arten von Knurrhähnen. Interessant ist, wie sie bei Gefahr regelrecht durch das Wasser fliegen. Dabei breiten sie ihre grossen Brustflossen aus und segeln weg. Der Deutsche Namen "Knurrhahn" kommt von den knurrenden Geräuschen, die sie erzeugen.

Habitat: flat areas with sand , rubble and algaes
Range: Red Sea to Tuamotus, to Japan
