This small lionfish (the one we found was about 5 cm) is also called blackfoot firefish and is unique in having an elongate upper caudal ray. We found it while diving in Dauin, Negros in the Philippines. Then after several years I saw it again in Bali, Indonesia. At that time I identified this fish from a book by Scott Michaels (Reef Fishes Vol. 1 from Microcosm Ltd. Shelburne USA 1998) where he says, that it is known in Japan to Hong Kong. Well, add to this, also known in the Philippines and Indonesia as these photos proof. (The older photos were exchanged with these more recent photos of better quality)

This lionfish has also very special pectoral fins and dermal appendages on each side of the upper jaw as seen on this photo.
